Chris Checke is renowned for his high-energy, passion, and dedication in educating our community about substance use/abuse trends, prevention, treatment, and recovery issues.
Chris provides the overall guidance and support for the Commission's community and family enrichment initiatives, including adult substance use prevention programs. He coordinates the efforts of community resources, develops partnerships, and monitors evidenced-based substance use prevention models. He coordinates parenting initiatives to help provide Broward County parents with the necessary tools to raise healthy, drug-free children. One example of this parenting model is the best practice program called Guiding Good Choices that the Commission oversees.
Since 1999, Chris has worked closely with the South Florida recovery community. His background in substance abuse treatment, clinical supervision, and program leadership fuels his drive to increase public awareness and influence public policy regarding substance use and the importance of raising resilient youth.
Chris received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Tampa as well as his Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling and Master of Business Administration in Health Services Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Chris is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Addictions Professional. He is credentialed at the national level as a Master Addiction Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Chris is also Board Certified in Professional Counseling.
